Helping archives document the public's social media coverage of events

The Challenge

The use of social media by the public to chronicle historically significant events -from #BlackLivesMatter to #MeToo – is widespread. Scholars, students and archivists, amongst others, now need a user-friendly means of collecting and preserving it, in an ethical way.

The Solution

A tool and a community developed around supporting the ethical collection, use, and preservation of social media content.

So Far…

  • Workshops on continuing dialogue with specific social justice communities
  • A college-level curriculum in development
  • Investigating sustainable funding models
