Leonie was part of the Shift team during 2020, bringing ten years' experience in design-led research and policy development.
She trained in ethnographic research and service design at the Innovation Unit, a public sector consultancy, where she worked on a range of projects aiming to tackle knotty social challenges across diverse education, early years and health settings. Most recently, Leonie was based in the policy team at Universities UK, a membership body for 137 UK universities, where she worked on projects relating to degree apprenticeships, flexible and lifelong learning and research culture.
Leonie also holds a PhD in English Literature and Cultural Theory from the University of London and has worked as an Associate Lecturer for Birkbeck College.
Leonie is an enthusiastic traveller and once sailed around the world while working as a journalist on a Japanese charity boat. She has lived in Japan, Berlin and the US.
